At War artists Peter Max Lawrence and Truong Tran act as generals for their respective armies of multidisciplinary artists, including poets and dancers, in a special evening of performance to accompany the exhibition. Performers include: Rachael Dichter Rick D’Elia Jennifer Hasegawa Carolyn Ho Philip Huang Macklin Kowal Daniel Lichtenberg Daniel Redman Liz Tenuto Tickets are $5 in advance or $7 at the door. Advance tickets can be purchased online at http://atwar.eventbrite.com/. Rachael Dichter is a San Francisco based dancer and performer. She grew up in and around the Bay Area, training and performing as a classical ballerina and majoring in Dance and Art History at Mills College. She then studied performance and classical techniques in New York and India before spending a year in Minneapolis dancing with the Dylan Skybrook Dance Company, and three years in Brussels Belgium with Fougere Dance. Since returning stateside she has had the pleasure of performing with Keith Hennessy, Kelly Kemp, Aura Fischbeck, Christine Cali, Alyssa Lee and Abigail Hosein, and she currently works with Laura Arrington and Mica Sigourney. Rich D'Elia is a poet, educator, and beloved mentor to many young writers in San Francisco. He is currently a teaching fellow with San Francisco WritersCorp. Jennifer Hasegawa is a poet, playwright and stage performer living and working in San Francisco. Carolyn Ho is a poet and artist living in San Francisco, and is pursing her MFA at SFSU. She folds cranes obsessively as a performative act with no desire to develop the art further. The crane as a symbol is irrelevant and arbitrary. She believes the over 10,000 cranes she's made over a three-year period is merely a byproduct of folding and coping with, among other concerns, the disenchantment of earning a fine arts graduate degree during a recession. Philip Huang is the founder of the Home Theater Festival and the author of A Pornography of Grief. Macklin Kowal is a performer and performance maker based in his native San Francisco. He is an alumnus of the San Francisco School of the Arts, San Francisco State University, and l’Universite de Paris VIII Vincennes-Saint-Denis. His original work addresses the construction of the social body within the frame of the somatic body, and is often built upon cyclical structures. These interests have been significantly shaped, respectively, by Kowal’s experiences dancing for Minna Harri, Ann Magnuson, Prumsodun Ok, & Tessa Wills, and his formative training in kathak and flamenco. Daniel Redman’s performances of Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass can be found on Vimeo and YouTube. He resides in San Francisco where he works as a lawyer for The National Center for Lesbian Rights. Liz Tenuto is a student and teacher of feel good movement. She grew up shaking and twirling in San Diego and continued her studies at UC Santa Barbara and in Granada, Spain. In San Francisco she is a founding and ongoing member of Laura Arrington Dance. She has also performed with Erika Tsimbrovsky/Avy K Productions, Anne Bluethenthal and Dancers and Scott Wells and Dancers. Liz teaches creative movement and world dance to urban youth in public schools through Performing Arts Workshop and the Richmond District Neighborhood Center. She is also on faculty at the ODC School Teen Program.
